Enjoying Christmas in our Homeschool through Four Christmas carols

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, like the ones I used to know…

One Christmas, we got snow in spades, or shall I say, in shovels.

So. Much. Snow. Four feet almost to its height. Running down our 200-foot driveway was a two-foot-wide space shoveled for a walkway.

We parked at the top and walked down to our cozy little home. It was just like a childhood winter, etching out snow forts and protecting them with snowballs.

This is Christmas in our homeschool…

House with skis: Christmas in our homeschool

This is Christmas in our homeschool: a silent night, holy night…

There’s nothing like a cozy fire burning with lit candles and a backdrop of tree lights, through the window, oodles of trees trimmed in God’s deco of the season: fresh snow.

What about a glass of mulled wine? Okay, a glass of cab sav will do. With a great book? Might I recommend a favourite: The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells. With a few great people: my hubby and kiddos.

Away in a Manger…

Lighting candles on the advent wreath we’ve owned since the Christmas before we were married…still burning the same four purple tapers and light of the world candle…

And remembering the gift of peace, love, joy, and hope imparted by the gift of baby Jesus.

We remember all year, but especially this season.

Christmas in our homeschool 2014

Oh Holy Night, the stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth,

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

Since December 25, 336, the first recorded celebration of Christmas, ‘natus Christus in Betleem Judeae’, just after the winter solstice as the earth enlivens little by little with sunlight returning, we celebrate the light of the world, Jesus.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, it’s the most hap-hap-happiest season of all…

Why? I think because though so many celebrate Christmas for so many reasons, we all are celebrating, choosing to engage in merriment. The energy makes it the most wonderful time of the year.

(Well, we don’t all think that…)

Meredith: Christmas in our homeschool

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,

Let your heart be light,

From now on your troubles will be out of sight,

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,

Make the Yuletide gay,

From now on your troubles will be miles away,

Here we are as in olden days,

Faithful friends who are dear to us,

They gather near to us once more

Through the years we will all be together

And if the fates allow,

Hang a shining star upon the highest bough,

And have yourself a merry little Christmas.
