When someone asks me about “how” I did my homeschool, I go into a fog…at what point of my homeschool are you asking me to describe? There’s no doubt that the way I approached homeschooling changed drastically over the years—from that first summer to the first year, the third year, the eighth year, and even the seventeenth year—it was all done very, very differently.
It took me many iterations to reach the clarity I have now in explaining why I chose to homeschool too. Even during the busiest days of homeschooling, my reasons for doing it evolved significantly over time.
One thing I’ve learned for certain is that knowing why you’re doing it (& really why you do anything) is a requirement to do something intentionally. So if you want to re-envision your homeschool life in 2025, I’ll ask you this one simple question:
“Do you KNOW your WHY?”
This question is all over socials for a reason. We are repeatedly told to return to our “why” in our homeschool. You can call it cliche, but no doubt, it is a useful question that clearly everyone thinks is valuable.
If you want to re-envision your homeschool life in 2025, you need to consider this.
I’ve learned that why you homeschool affects everything:
- How you teach your kids.
- How you feel about homeschooling.
- Definitely how your family grows together.
- And how you show up in your family.
- How you show up for you.
Take a moment to reflect and journal:
📖 Reflect on what led you to homeschooling.
📖 Consider the aspects you love most about it.
📖 Identify the challenges you face along the way.
Your WHY is your anchor.
Write it down and use it as a daily affirmation to guide your decisions, your activities, and your intentions.
(You can write it on a recipe card and tape it to your bathroom mirror).
