Sarah Gorner, of The Happiness Here blog, began homeschooling her three children in 2008. She and her husband Brian saw homeschooling as a way to provide an individualized education for their children.
Alongside traditional academics, the Gorner family has enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, birding, and cross-country skiing. When not out and about exploring, they like to create and build using a combination of art, computer-aided design, woodworking, and metalworking. Early on, Sarah started her own homeschooling group, Green Mountain Area Homeschoolers.
During Covid, Sarah has worked to maintain a sense of community with online activities and meetings as well as a few in-person field trips that meet Colorado’s Covid guidelines. She’s seen this difficult year as a time to grow and adapt and explore new avenues for the group and for her family.
With two children homeschooling in high school and one attending college now, she has been able to put more time into her blog, The Happiness Here. She posts regularly on homeschooling, fitness, and gluten-free baking. She is a physical therapist and teaches fitness classes. Her current projects include a gluten-free cookbook as well as a public speaking course for students.
