A Vulnerable Story Of An Overwhelmed Homeschool Mom Journey

A Moment of Vulnerability About My Overwhelm Homeschool Mom Experience…

I thought peaceful, satisfying homeschool mornings were an unattainable dream. My mornings were anything but calm—waking up with a heavy heart and a long list of responsibilities that began as soon as my feet hit the floor. I didn’t have the mental bandwidth to ask myself, “How are you feeling?” or “What do you need?” My focus was entirely on my kids and the demands of homeschooling. I was on autopilot, not pausing to see if our routine really worked or aligned with our values. Certainly, I was an overwhelmed homeschool mom.

The Reality: The Toll of Ignoring Myself

I now know I wasn’t creating the margins needed to nurture the most meaningful aspects of my life—my relationship with myself, my connection with my partner, and my sense of belonging in the community. I pushed myself harder, telling myself to do more, be more, and give more. In my overwhelmed homeschool mom experience, it didn’t matter how much I did, it never felt like enough.

My overwhelmed homeschool mom experience is made worse by ignoring myself.

Then came the breaking point. One morning, before we even completed our morning basket, the weight of it all dropped me to my knees. Literally.

Maybe it was the kids bickering, maybe I was at the low end of my cycle, or maybe it was unresolved conflict with my husband. Whatever it was, I found myself yelling, dissolving on my bedroom floor, and feeling utterly defeated.

The Turning Point: A New Perspective

That day, a friend sent me a TEDx Talk about shame—a message that spoke directly to my heart. For the first time, I realized I wasn’t taking care of myself. I wasn’t even acknowledging that I needed to be taken care of. I was stuck on a hamster wheel of mothering, pretending I could keep going no matter what.

This was the start of my shift toward wellness, clarity, and energy as a homeschool mom.

If You Resonate, You’re Not Alone

If my story resonates with you, you’re not alone. Many homeschool moms share similar struggles.

We try to keep it all together, give our kids the best, and do “everything right.” Yet the pressure is immense. We second-guess ourselves, feel unsupported, and sometimes even question if we’re good enough.

Despite the challenges, we all crave the same things: margin in our day, space to think consecutive thoughts, a private bathroom break, and the freedom to pursue interests beyond homeschooling.

The Shift: Moving Towards Wellness

Through mindset shifts and intentional practices, I began to turn things around. Even on days I wake up feeling low, I now have tools to reset, nurture myself, and align our homeschool routine with our values.
